This citrus juicer from Epica is quite handsome with the brushed stainless steel finish contrasting with black and clear plastic. It looks so space-age that I keep peeking in the kitchen to see if it’s hovering! It’s quite compact and takes up very little room: the base diameter is 6 in. with a maximum diameter of 7 1/2 in. for the cover.
This juicer is so very simple and even fun to use: just cut the citrus fruit in half and push it down on the reamer. The pressure activates the quiet 70 watt motor and makes the reamer spin. The juice flows through a stainless steel slotted filter that catches the large pulp and seeds and then it flows through a spout into the glass. It will juice a dozen oranges before the filter needs to be cleaned and it is very efficient, leaving behind no juice whatsoever in the peel.
The smaller reamer is for lemons, limes, juice oranges, tangerines, and other smaller citrus fruits. There is a larger reamer that fits over it for larger citrus such as grapefruits or pomelos. The spout flips to seal off the flow of juice with a silicone plug and doesn’t drip when closed. All of the parts that that come in contact with the juice lift right off and rinse clean quite easily.
The base unit has large rubbery feet and is heavy enough to stay put. There is a cover for when it’s not in use and there is even a storage area for the cord underneath.
This juicer is so compact and efficient and easy to clean that I will be making my own juice rather than buying it in cartons. It is so easy to use that guests or even older children (with supervision) can make their own fresh juice and it would be a welcome addition to brunches.
